Punks, Country Westerners and Morons

Here is an amusing article I happened across today:

Punk Rockers Hit the Road for Kerry

I had been wondering when the punks and others would come out and direct their musical vision and energy into a prophetic stance against what is happening in this country. And I noticed that some country-western artists want to come out and support Bush. Wow, liberal punks on one side and country neocons on the other. I'd like to group the Budhists with the liberal punks, but it seems that some of them have run off and joined the libertarians!
Plus I keep running into Buddhist Republicans online. And I thought "form is emptiness, emptiness is form" was a hard to crack Buddhist paradox.

Anyway, I do appreciate what Alice Cooper had to say: "If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for," Cooper told the Edmonton Sun in August, "you're a bigger moron than they are."

Rev. Ryuei -

It seems the polarization we have achieved this political silly season extends across every conceivable boundary. The really funny thing that I find is that so many folks have one or two non-negotiable issues (as we call them in corporate-speak) which control their choice of candidate, no matter that they (sometimes intensely) dislike that same candidate's stands on a number of other issues.

I've said this elsewhere, but I do not believe that the American political system (as presently constituted) is capable of delivering a candidate for election who has a prayer of actually creating fundamental positive change, however you personally define that change.

Or as Andy Hanlen would put it, Big Gov't Party and Bigger Gov't Party, you choose which is which. Yes, you have a choice, but do you *really* have a choice, or are they actually interchangeable? This is, of course, entirely avoiding the question of the electoral system, which is another argument entirely.
