OT: Saddam offered to step down? / a Myth of the "Green Left"

I am going to write about Buddhism again soon. Oddly, hit counts are up here lately. {I keep my own count}. It must be the play lists or my amateur photos and videos. Or maybe it is 'bots? It can not be my lame, half interested political commentary.

One thing, believe nothing just because I post it here. Discerning the truth amongst the agenda driven media is like searching for a raisin in a pile of manure. Or as one of my cousin's 'used to' say, 'pickin' fly specks outta pepper.' {is it 'used to,' or 'use to'? Yoostah?}. Anyhoo, it ain't all that easy. If readers have time, I suggest checking for oneself, and be very skeptical of those who appear to think they know; those who print half baked rumor as if it were proven fact. The thing is, in my experience, the more certain they sound, the more likely really do not know.

At any rate, I have been looking at some of the myths spread by the green left Bush Haters. One of these is that Saddam Hussein offered to step down and go into exile; but Bush was determined to invade and rejected the deal. The silliest one had Saddam offering W & Dick 1 billion dollars each of they accepted the deal.

The truth appears to be that the UAE tried to broker a deal However, it seems Hussein insisted that the entire Arab League sign off with some guaranties of protection. It turns out that the Arab League apparently never even considered the proposal. Also, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak inferred it was doubtful that Saddam would have gone through with the plan. Moreover, it appears that the US State did hear about it, but was never approached for serious discussion.

From what I can gather, it appears that some green left web sites hate Bush so much, that are willing to twist the truth to do harm to the Administration. On the other hand, they are furious with the Administration for allegedly doing the same thing to sell the invasion of Iraq. Some of the accusations are so off the wall, I am embarrassed to mention them; they read like Onion pieces.

At any rate, if this were Snopes; then I would say this offer by Saddam to step down is basically an Urban Myth / Legend.

My source is CNN; which I consider slanted a tad to the left; but they are generally fairly credible, and not given to flights of bizarre fantasy.

"without verifying your facts, that is not a journalist"

The green left sites all pretty much parrot the same innuendo, half truths, and distortions[ as if they were facts. I did, indeed, fact check my comments on Cheney's pay form Haliburton. The haters do not actually lie, they just conveniently omit details.

I have a lot more material than I even have time to mess with. I would take pictures of sunsets, rivers, or wildlife or assemble playlists.

Also, again, attacks on others in our Buddhist web community are not really wanted here. I delete posts if people come on here smearing you also.

I am not into Pi**ing contests. Evetyone ends up smelling like urine.

There are plenty of places where people talk about / gossip about people and their antics or exploits. I much prefer to talk about principles. ideas, and methods.

Robin, your walk doesn't match your talk, although you did break out of prison, I mean the Cockeye, but you still don't remember you metta Buddha.

I was using the term "closet" jokingly. These days, there is no Democrat or Republican, there is not really a two party system, and there is no Democracy. You were writing about Haliburton and other things without verifying your facts, that is not a journalist, and people are skewed by the media.

But we live in America, and you are entitled to believe what you want, and write what you want, and we can discuss what we want, and agree to disagree.

As far as UFO's the government has been concealing evidence even before FDR, I better watch out or Rogow will want them to cut my family's throat too.

Have a good night Robin.

Thanks Robin

I was never in any closet. I have always been culturally liberal and conservative politically. My Republican friends suspect that I am a closet left winger.

I once write political satire mixed with serious discussion; but never made it clear which is which. I was never really sure either. :}

I tend to go with what the Buddha told the Kalamas. For example, do not believe something just because someone claims to have inside information. I am not saying I disbelieve either.

Dear Robin, by now I guess you have come out of he closet as a right winger, but you will not be exposed to what our government has done unless you have access to what our government has done through credible inside sources which I doubt you have, so everything you know is being fed to you by the media, in a need to know basis, and what you feed back is what you were made to know. It worked, you bought the sales job. Do you think for one second Robin is going to be let in on in the inside information of the Bush (SR and JR admin) or the Clinton Admin? No.. or even what went on in the SGI or the Shoshu, or the Shu, Kempon, no. Unless you were there, on the inside, and Robin you were not. You were looking in from the outside, now reading the outside reports, the shore stories being told what to believe, the tail is wagging the dog.

I was there in the SGI, Shoshu, Kempon, I brought the Prayer Gohonzon to America, I brought Kempon to America NOT Lamont, I was Senchu Murano's good friend, my cousin is in the Secret Service, cousin is in the FBI, UFOlogist, and more. I do not rely on the media for outside information. You will find out 80%+ is garbage.

In the original sanskrit of the Lotus Sutra there is no mention of faith, there is confidence, there is no worship or belief, again you bought the wrong story. There is no religion. The priests and the leaders of religion sold a line of garbage and everyone swallowed the kool aid. Is anyone happy, NOW don't lie to me, the answer is NO. You left the SGI because you were so excited and happy, people dumped the shoshu because they were jumping up an down with joy, millions have left the SGI because they became enlightened, right? NOT

There is no Religion in Buddhism. There is no practice, you already have merits in your life, Buddha in your mind, you meta the Buddha when he taught you the way to be a Buddha.

Saddam Hussein did not possess stockpiles of illicit weapons at the time of the U.S. invasion in March 2003 and had not begun any program to produce them, a CIA report concludes.

In fact, the long-awaited report, authored by Charles Duelfer, who advises the director of
central intelligence on Iraqi weapons, says Iraq's WMD program was essentially destroyed in 1991 and Saddam ended Iraq's nuclear program after the 1991 Gulf War.

The massive report does say, however, that Iraq worked hard to cheat on United Nations - imposed sanctions and retain the capability to resume production of weapons of mass destruction
at some time in the future.

"[Saddam] wanted to end sanctions while preserving the capability to reconstitute his weapons of mass destruction when sanctions were lifted," a summary of the report says.

That is another topic. Ask Clinton and Gore. Did you like my UFO? Anyway, this entry is about the myth that Saddam offered to step down.

Posted by: robin at June 22, 2008 06:38 AM

Where were the weapons of mass destruction? Oh that's right, there were none. Bush used that, so he could kill 4000+ soldiers and millions of Iraqis to bring oil up to $200 a barrel. He is a nice guy your Mr Bush, and Dickie Cheney, alwyas making the connection that Sadam and BinLaden were Bosom Buddies, what a crock of Crap. No wonder you bought the bull sh*t of the Soka Cockeye.
