Thank you. I brought that one back from Japan in 1978. I have had many Butsudons and carried them with me all over or made ones for myself and others. I don't really see the need for one anymore except my cats sometimes sneak up on the altar and who knows what would happen if a they got the notion to hunt a moth that just happened to land on the Gohonzon. If I had a Gohonzon room I probably wouldn't even employ a butsudon, it would be off limits to the cats except when I was there. The adherents of the underground Nichiren sects wouldn't even enshrine their Gohonzons in fear that the Japanese authorities would break into their homes and confiscate or destroy them. Similarly, it is Mappo and people do sometimes get hostile to the Gohonzon, so perhaps a butsudon is always warranted. What do you think? I wonder if all of Robin's Gohonzons are enshrined in a Butsudan, I think I read that he has more than a half a dozen Gohonzon. I once failed to roll up a Gohonzon when moving, tying it down unrolled, in a traveling butsudon and the border got ripped. I was freaked out and bitterly disappointed in my stupidity. The Nichiren Shoshu priests took forever to repair it and return it but they did do a nice job and I was sure it was the same Gohonzon I sent them. I was once thinking of gold leafing the border of my Gohonzon but I wasn't confident in my craftsmanship so I thought better about it. I am seriously considering returning my Nissho Gohonzon to receive a hand inscribed Gohonzon by Rev. Tsuchiya, for unity sake with my him and his movement. Once again, thanks for the comment.
