All properly Eye Opened Gohonzon are equal and all are the life of the Three Bodied Tathagata, Lord Shakyamuni of the Juryo Chapter. However, Nichiren was very wise. He realized that some people would misconstrue the true nature of the Gohonzon by seeing only the Daimoku. Many believers were simple farmers and not very learned or scholarly and they were surrounded by heretics. They would fall into the Shingon belief that the Object of Worship is the Dharma Body of the Buddha rather than the Trikaya. Therefore, the Daishonin developed the form of the Gohonzon so no one could misconstrue the import of the Gohonzon. How strange that the SGI, even though the Gohonzon is before their eyes, believe the Eternal Buddha is Namu Myoho renge kyo, thus confusing the Buddha with the Law and visa versa.
