What do you wear to a 16th century gongyo as a warrior for Kosen-rufu?

Don't forget to pack your travel altar when pilgrimaging from Kamakura to Mt. Minobu.

I'm pretty sure it's not photoshop as they are for sale. But for ye of little faith...

Different helmet

Don't forget your omamori...

How about Bishamonten, god of war and warriors, guardian of the north and one bad ass shoten zenjin.
This is listed as "Kamakura Head Priest".

LOL, that is classic! I wish I had enough money to buy one of those.
Namu Myoho Renge Kyo,

The helmet is $10K. I found another one, cool but not as cool, for about $4K. Nichiren in a box is cheap at $500.
Posted by: joe at November 26, 2008 11:16 PMI once spent a night guarding a bunch of midieval japanese armor at the U.N. But I find it hard to believe that the daimoku wasn't photoshopped onto that helmet. It's real?
Posted by: clown hidden at November 27, 2008 12:34 AMI've added the other shots. It's an antique gallery in Japan with a big rep so I doubt it's a scam as they are for sale along with a ton of samurai armor and artwork. I've been emailing the dealer. Seriously, if I had the bucks, I'd be leading daimoku wearing one of the helmets at our next discussion meeting. Then we'd really have something to talk about, neh?
Posted by: joe at November 27, 2008 01:06 AMIt would be interesting to know the history of these helmets. Who wore them, and why?
Posted by: clown hidden at November 27, 2008 04:18 PMThat's the premise of "The Red Violin": what's your story?
Posted by: joe at November 27, 2008 05:39 PMPlease make the photos larger, they are too hard to see...
