Haiti and Hope
I have long found the story of Haiti beguiling. A lovely Island, spattered with blood; conquered and enslaved by the Spanish who exterminated the native Tainos in a thorough holocaust. Settled by pirates, slaves and their children. Site of a bloody revolt led by the redoubtable Toussaint l'Ouverture. Ouverture, betrayed by his own generals, dies in a prison. His general, Desalines, after betraying his teacher has himself proclaimed Emperor, eventually being assassinated in turn. Forced to pay "reparations" to the French for defeating them and in order to be "recognized" as a Nation. Invaded by English, Americans and Spanish. Invaded by the US repeatedly in this last Century. A lovely, sad, warm and beguiling place. Soaked with blood.
My heart goes out to those people.
Fallen Angel
Yes, someone made a pact with the devil.
Only he thought he was talking to God on High.
He threw Ink pots at his enemy,...only to find ink in his eye.
He preached hell and brimstone on the altar.
...and sold his soul to the devil to build a televangelical Empire,
He preached that God rewards the Good;
and fattens his bank accounts.
yes, this Joshua;
marched around a building seven times,
So he could get the lease.
And created an alternative reality,
So he could excoriate G-ds creation.
He prophesized doom and gloom
To build up his audience of believers
And he is sure that the devil is at work everywhere;
...and he is right,....
....
What good do gloom and doom do one?
When salvation is just a first step!
I was spared, I was saved, I was pulled from the dark.
So? What do I do now?
Do I step on others?
What I shouldn't do is to wish evil on others.
What I should do is live by my principles
But ever that is hard.
Jesus was Preaching to Jews,
When he talked of Good Samaritans
This Preacher walked on by!
And when I see a preacher smiling,
While talking about how suffering,
Is punishment for an ancestors mistake;
I wonder what a sick world view, what a sick man,
His life is punishment enough
