Good News

Good news today.

1. Congress did the right thing and passed the McCain amendment banning torture.

2. Bush promised to rebuild the Levees in New Orleans. [We'll see if he is serious later].

3. The Patriot Act could have been worse.

Chris -

Maybe it's just me, but has our President been retrenching this week? First the admission of responsibility for going to war on incorrect intelligence, and now a promise to rebuild the levees. Is it getting cold in Hell?

Well I'm happy. Backpedaling is a bit more honest than stonewalling even if it looks namby pamby.

I can't be comfortable as a member of the loyal opposition with a man who is lying to me, condoning corruption, real treason [outing Plame], getting people killed by incompetantly prosecuting a war and condoning the torture of prisoners (wink wink), while wrapping himself in the flag and the military -- all the while accusing folks like me of treason for disagreeing with him. All I could do was to get hot under the collar every time I thought of him.

As long as he was breaking laws, committing high crimes and misdemeaners, and insisting on shoving it all in my face all I could do was to work for a Democratic majority and hope they'd impeach him.

I'm still hoping for that, but at least I can give him credit for a few things. A man who can admit mistakes isn't a total idiot. I never thought he was, the idiot public face is a facade he uses to convince people he's really one of them -- and shows how much he despises them. His real problem isn't idiocy it's arrogance.

And I forgot to give the military a high five for the elections there.
