Well, today's the big day - 29 years old at last! Well, for the umpteenth time, 29 at last. I woke up, I fed the cats, I meditated, I went for a walk, I ate an omelette, I went to my district meeting where I did gongyo and spoke about how cool it is that we can participate in the Ceremony in the Air twice a day. I took a little nap, I went to the library, and now I am going out to do gongyo again and have dinner with friends. Yesterday, I was feted by an aunt who gave me some books (can't imagine why she though I'd like that kind of a present) , and a mug which reads "Ladies' Sewing Circle and Terrorist Society." A true aunt of my bosom.
All in all, a good way to spend ye olde birthday. When I was younger, I used to have a big party every year, but I have become less of a big party person since then...the clean-up is really burdensome. And since I still don't have a maid (what? After all these years?), I have to take clean-up into account.
What do the rest of you here like to do on your birthday? For me, it's like most other days, except I get free food, presents, and another notch in my belt. The cats don't seem to notice at all. You'd think they'd give me breakfast for once, but no deal. Oh, well -
Bye for now,
Byrd in LA

What I did on my birthday: My husband and I went for a walk, went grocery shopping, and then we went to see a movie recommended by my friend Byrd, "Stardust."
When we got home, I curled up on the sofa for awhile with a good book, The Demon-Haunted World by Carl Sagan. Finally, I ended the evening by doing genealogy research on the web until I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer.

Happy birthday! I like the Jack Benny philosophy, although I think he was always 39. I love what you're doing on your blog and wish you many, many more happy borthdays. BTW, being an unabashed cat fanatic, I would love to see an entire blog on your kitties.

Posted by: Charles at September 24, 2007 09:25 AMHappy Birthday to you, Byrd, and may you go on to write many a blog in the future!
My cats Tarzan and Mr. Mack Mack got together and caught you a bird for your birthday, but I decided that it might be poor form to mail it to you. They just want you to know they are thinking of you. The cat world celebrates your presence. It's all part of that cat karma thing that you are blessed with.
Cheers, and many joyous years to you.
Kris
Happy Birthday Byrd,

Happy birthday, a month late! (I haven't been on the site for awhile.) I, too, have let go of wanting parties on my birthday. My mom once told me that kid's parties should have "one friend for every year of life." So a three year old has three kids at her party, and so on.
At my age (29 like you! Again and again!) the number is increasingly large, making the effort incredibly horrific. No matter how many hours you spend preparing, it takes ten times that number for the cleaning up. And does anyone have THAT much fun?
I think not.
In fact, now that you mention it (you did mention it, right?) I think we should get "green" points for NOT having parties and wasting all those resources.
The funny thing is that as I write this, my kids are having a loud Halloween party downstairs.
